Recently, Oracle announced the availability of their new Oracle Utilities Network Management System 1.10.0. This latest tool for network management comes with new smart grid support as well as improved security features. Oracle enhances its smart grid by providing an operational framework that works well with smart switches and supervisory control and data acquisition systems.
This is beneficial because it helps applications perform "self-healing" functions in order to automatically restore the power of customers which prevents long term outages while increasing customer satisfaction. The Network Management System further increases security through tightened restrictions for network connections, user authentication and database transactions. The new Oracle edition also provides improved damage assessments, advanced analytics for suggested switching, more detailed outage management alerts and optimization for Volt and VAr.
